Every year the City of Mississauga works toward improving and upgrading the complex system of sewers and underground pipes. However, these actions alone are not able to protect a home from basement flooding for 100%.  As intense rainstorms and other severe weather conditions are becoming a new normal in Ontario due to climate change, homeowners should be proactive when it comes to reducing the risk of basement flooding on their private property.

What is Foundation Drain Collector Sump Pump Subsidy?

To help homeowners safeguard their homes from the risk of basement flooding during severe rainstorms, the City of Mississauga has introduced one more subsidy program – Foundation Drain Collector Sump Pump Subsidy in addition to its Backwater Valve Rebate Program.

This fairly new basement flooding protection program offers a financial subsidy that covers the full cost of the sump pump installation, to a maximum of $6,000 per household, whichever is less. Those homeowners living on streets that are serviced by the municipal Foundation Drain Collector (FDC) system are eligible for the financial assistance. The City of Mississauga warning all homeowners to be cautious of door-to-door sales people offering sump pump installation services as The City doesn’t employ or authorize any third-party companies to provide this service on behalf of The City.
